Integrating Computing into Preservice Teacher Preparation Programs across the Core: Language, Mathematics, and Science

This paper describes the beginning of a design-based research project for integrating computing activities in preservice teacher programs throughout middle and secondary education department. Computing integration use tools, like programming, to support learning non-computing disciplines. The begins with motivation that encouraged widespread buy-in, design goals, parameters. primary motivating factor this work was preparing teachers technology their classrooms. Involving faculty preparation enabled include computer science spread computational literacy. also process year-long timeline designing implementing integrations, followed by details integrated activities. Last, teachers’ reactions integration, focusing on before-and-after perceptions knowledge computing. Preservice evolved similarly who engage different approaches about computing, such as elective or educational courses, suggesting approach is effective engaging all In particular, common feature ignited excitement offering new opportunities improve student providing within discipline.
